Because Grampa wished to be cremated, and because we all went to Illinois just six weeks ago for Gramma's funeral, it has been decided not to rush to get together this time. There will be a memorial service in about a month, on a day chosen after comparing everybody's schedules. Dad is out there now, of course, with his siblings. There's a lot of practical details to be dealt with, and I'm sure they all feel better for being together.
Grampa had been in poor health for awhile now, and he clearly took it very hard when his wife died. I can't say I'm surprised by his passing, as such. But I guess one is never truly prepared for such things.
