We celebrated Independence Day with homemade ice cream and lots of explosions. What more could I ask for? As we have done most years, we stayed home; the big celebration in the city seems like too much to deal with while the kids are little. But since people around our neighborhood love their fireworks,* we didn't really sacrifice much. I eventually poured Zoe in bed around nine, and Nick about ten, and yes, that was way past their bedtimes. Funny thing, Nick slept in. Zoe only slept an extra half hour, curse her toddler regularity, but a few hours later she went into the living room and quietly fell asleep on the sofa. Since she gave up morning naps a month or so ago, we were a bit surprised. Took a nice long afternoon nap, too.
*And so do we, as it happens. The boys went out and bought quite a few at the sales after New Year's, and we'd been saving them. Then we went back this week so Nick could buy more with his savings. He started begging to set them off before breakfast. We made him wait till after lunch.
